Privacy Policy

Berean (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Berean mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. If you have any questions, contact us at support@berean.io.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you sign in with Apple, Google, or create a guest account, we collect basic authentication identifiers (such as your name and email address) through our authentication provider, Supabase. Guest accounts do not require personal information.

Reading Data

Your reading progress, verse highlights, and playback preferences are stored locally on your device. This data is not transmitted to our servers.

Voice Data

When you use the interactive voice Q&A feature, your voice audio is sent in real time to our servers for processing. Audio is converted to text by Deepgram (a third-party speech-to-text service) and is not permanently stored.

Subscription Data

Subscription status is managed by RevenueCat. We do not directly handle payment information—all payments are processed by Apple through the App Store.

How We Use Your Information

• To provide and maintain the Berean app
• To process voice queries and deliver AI-powered answers via Google Gemini
• To generate text-to-speech audio via Cartesia and ElevenLabs
• To manage your subscription and account
• To respond to support requests

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Berean. Each service processes data in accordance with its own privacy policy.

• Supabase — Authentication and account management
• RevenueCat — Subscription management
• Deepgram — Speech-to-text processing
• Google Gemini — AI question answering
• Cartesia / ElevenLabs — Text-to-speech generation

Data Retention

• Account data is retained while your account is active.
• Voice audio is processed in real time and is not permanently stored.
• Reading progress, highlights, and preferences remain on your device only.

Your Rights & Data Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from the Settings screen in the app. Account deletion removes your authentication data and any server-side information associated with your account. Local data (reading progress, highlights) can be removed by uninstalling the app.

Microphone Permission

The app requests microphone access solely for the voice Q&A feature. Microphone permission can be revoked at any time in your device’s Settings.

Children’s Privacy

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us so we can promptly remove it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date.
